On Thursday June 16, 2011, AAPL will be sponsoring, in conjunction with NALA, a Field Landman Seminar in Warren, Ohio, at The Avalon Inn Resort & Conference Center beginning at 3:30 PM and continuing through 8:00 PM. In line with NALA’s continuing push to bring quality education and social programs at very reasonable cost to the area land professionals, this event once again reinforces that commitment. There is no charge to attend the seminar, happy hour, dinner and business session for AAPL members. Reservations, however are mandatory and the attached meeting notice provides the details. For any non-AAPL members, the charge is $50.00 and the fee will then be applied to that attendees initial annual membership charge to join AAPL. NALA is very grateful to AAPL who has made this program available to the area land professionals. NALA continues to seek out quality education and networking events at highly desirable locations and at low cost. We are hopeful you will take advantage of this great opportunity to golf, receive quality educational information, network and hear news of interest to the area land professional. Finally, NALA will be capping the evening by voting on and introducing the new executive committee that will be representing NALA over the upcoming two-year period. NALA LUNCHEON APRIL 21, 2011 FOUR POINTS SHERATON

UPCOMING NALA LUNCHEON APRIL 21, 2011

It’s that time once again to meet and network with your fellow land professionals as NALA hosts its second Landman’s luncheon of 2011 on Thursday April 21st. This time we meet at The Four Points Sheraton in Warrendale/Cranberry north of Pittsburgh. The address is 910 Sheraton Drive, Mars, PA 16046. Their phone number is (724) 776-6900. We start once again at 11:30 with the “meet and greet”, followed by our buffet luncheon at 12:00. Our featured presenter this month is Odon Simoneaux with Wild Well Control speaking on well safety and emergency planning. We should conclude around 1:30. This meeting is being hosted by Seneca Resources.

The cost for the event is $30.00 and can be paid either in advance or at the event. If paying in advance, make your check payable to NALA and mail it to Grace Brace, c/o NALA, P.O. Box 159, Meadville, PA 16335.

Please be sure to RSVP to Grace in advance of this event if you are planning to attend. We will accept reservations up through Monday April 18th. E-mail her at gbrace@jimbourbeau.com or call her at (814) 382-2500. If you make a reservation and do not cancel before Monday the 18th we must have you pay for the luncheon because we are starting to get quite a few reservations that turn into no shows and the association then gets stuck covering the cost for all those who reserve.

At our last luncheon in Southpointe we entertained 72 land professionals. Let’s see if we can surpass that number in Cranberry. Bring a friend along this time. I look forward to seeing you all on the 21st.

NORTHERN APPALACHIAN LANDMANS ASSOCIATION (NALA) SETS 2011 MEETING SCHEDULE

I am pleased to inform the NALA membership of a very important announcement regarding meeting dates and venues for the current calendar year. As you are all aware, your local Landmans Association has traditionally conducted quarterly dinner meetings throughout the southern tier of New York and the northern tier of Pennsylvania since its inception about 5 years ago. Those meetings have been held at various locations throughout the northern Appalachian region in an effort to better reach the core group of independent Landmen that were working in that region. Though that practice has served NALA and its independent core constituents well over time, it has become evident that recently as more and more company Landmen have relocated to the western Pennsylvania region NALA will need to expand its meetings and services over that additional area to reach out to that very significant contingent.

Recently the NALA Meeting Planning Committee convened its first meeting in Pittsburgh to ponder how best NALA can continue to serve its core independent contract Landman base throughout our region while also trying to reach out to the corporate Landmen now employed throughout the greater Pittsburgh Region. It was with unanimity that the committee decided that NALA should begin to hold monthly luncheon meetings in the Pittsburgh regional area while continuing to conduct its regular regional monthly dinner meetings as we’ve done in the past. Though this move will represent a challenge to cover both luncheons and quarterly dinners throughout the year, NALA has challenged a motivated core group of meeting planning individuals to pledge their time to assist in carrying out the logistics necessary to make these events happen.

Attached to this communication is a list of the meeting dates and locations for the monthly meetings beginning with our initial luncheon on February 10th at the Southpointe Hilton Garden Inn. You will note we will conduct our Quarterly Dinner Meetings in March at The Pittsburgh Airport Marriott Hotel during the AAPL CPL/RPL Review and Exam; in Warren, Ohio, a new location for NALA on June 16th, followed by our annual Corning Golf Outing on September 15th and closing out the dinner meetings at the always beautiful Genetti Hotel in downtown Williamsport on November 10th at which we will also hold an education seminar.

The luncheons will rotate between the Southpointe Hilton Garden Inn and the Pittsburgh North Four Points Sheraton during the months that we are not holding our quarterly dinner meetings. As explained earlier, the schedule of meetings for 2011 is set out on the attachment. It is hoped that by setting these meeting dates and locations for the year it will assist you to plan your schedules around the meetings you will want to attend.

In short, your local association is changing to better meet the needs of the Marcellus Landman by staying true to its roots with the dinner meetings while also reaching out to the company Land professionals that are stationed more permanently in the greater Pittsburgh region. Our luncheons will generally begin with a brief social period beginning at 11:30 with snack trays followed by a buffet luncheon and closing with a luncheon speaker who will cover various topics of interest to the Land professionals throughout the region. Meetings should last till around 1:30. Costs will be held to around the $30.00 range. Our dinner meetings will generally revolve around an educational or social event, as they have in the past.

I am hoping to follow-up with another notification to you all within the coming weeks about the meeting specifics with speakers and topics as we get them scheduled. I will try to keep you better informed throughout the year so we can all benefit from the increased meeting scheduling.

Throughout the year be checking back on the NALA website (www.nalalandman.org) from time to time which is where we will be listing many of our meeting updates and notices as well as much regional and national news of interest to the Land professional. All in all, I am very excited as we begin this new year with the networking opportunities ahead and the anticipation of the knowledge to be gained from attending meetings where topics of much land, legal and technical interest are shared. I look forward to seeing you all at many of our meetings throughout the year.

Sincerely,

Bernard J. Ulincy, CPL
NALA President
